When is the Christmas Market in Hallstatt?
The Hallstatt Christmas Market this year takes place with accompanying program only on one day, Monday:
- December 8, 2025 / from 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- at Marktplatz in Hallstatt

Hallstatt Christmas Market
The picturesque Lake Hallstatt surrounded by stunning mountains, unique traditions, and vibrant folk customs. All this creates one of the most charming Christmas markets in all of Austria.
However, if you arrive at any other time during the pre-Christmas season, rest assured you’ll still enjoy Hallstatt’s advent atmosphere. Locals decorate their houses with lights and other Christmas decorations, and you can still enjoy hot punch and traditional food.

What to See in Hallstatt During Advent?
1. Marktplatz – the heart of Christmas Hallstatt
- Look forward to wooden stalls, lights, and views of snow-covered roofs of local houses and white mountain scenery above the lake.
- In the evening, local choirs or village children sometimes perform – especially on the mentioned December 8, 2025 (Monday).

2. Parish Church of the Assumption
- A romantic Gothic church with a view of the entire town.
- An ideal quiet place for advent contemplation.
3. Lake Promenade
- Though short and busy on weekends, the magical walk along the water will surely captivate you.
- In the evening, the market lights reflect on the water’s surface – set your camera to festive mode.
4. Salt Mine Salzburg – Altaussee
- Due to cable car and mine reconstruction, trips to partner locations – Salzburg and Altaussee are available
- If you want to combine advent with some learning, winter here is quiet and crowd-free.
- Try the local salt from the mines.
Note that Salzwelten Hallstatt (salt mine, cable car, Skywalk viewpoint and high mountain valley) will remain closed until summer 2026.
5. ALL Inclusive Tour to Altaussee Mine
- You can visit the mentioned partner mine from Hallstatt daily (except Christmas – New Year’s)
- The trip costs 44 EUR per person / 24 EUR per child. Meeting point is daily at 13:50 at the bus terminal in Hallstatt
Departure from Hallstatt: 14:00 and return to Hallstatt: approximately at 17:30 - Tickets for the trip can be purchased at the information booth in Hallstatt, no later than 15 min. before departure

Below we list individual parking lots that are well-marked on information boards in Hallstatt and can be found using GPS on your phone or in your car. Here’s how long it takes to walk from the parking lot, bus, or boat to reach the main square for the Hallstatt Christmas market:
- All-day parking in Hallstatt costs around 16 EUR:
- Parking lot “P1”: 15 Min.
- Parking lot “P2”: 10 Min.
- Parking lot “P3/P4”: 40 Min.
- Bus terminal: 10 Min.
