Kammer am Attersee: A romantic spot in the north of Attersee

Kammer am Attersee is part of the municipality of Schörfling am Attersee on the northern shore of Lake Attersee. Look forward to a small but very photogenic spot by the lake, featuring a water castle, a promenade, and the Gustav Klimt garden. Families with children can enjoy kids’ attractions and a restaurant right by the marina.

In the summer months, it’s also a pleasant place for a swim. Visit this cultural site with our guide—it’s great for relaxation and sports, and serves as a reminder that Gustav Klimt spent regular summer stays at Attersee between 1900 and 1916.

Why visit Kammer am Attersee?

Kammer am Attersee is an ideal destination for a day trip, as well as for romantic or peaceful family weekends. Within this part of the Schörfling municipality, you’ll find a photogenic water castle, a promenade, free swimming areas, restaurants, a playground, mini-golf, a marina, boat transport, and the Gustav Klimt garden all in a small area. You don’t need a demanding itinerary. We recommend a walk around the castle, a swim in the summer, having lunch, and perhaps continuing with a boat trip across Lake Attersee.

Kammer Castle

Schloss Kammer (Seeschloss Kammer) is one of the most photogenic spots in northern Attersee. However, we must mention that the castle is private and can usually only be admired from the outside. This doesn’t matter, though, as it provides a beautiful backdrop for the park and the adjacent small harbor, where public boat transport departs from just around the corner. We recommend taking even a short boat ride to the neighboring village to enjoy the view of the castle from the water.

Interesting fact: In 2026, the Kunstmesse im Schloss Kammer am Attersee will take place at the castle. It will be open from May 21 to May 25, 2026, daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with free admission. Please note that this is an exceptional event and does not reflect the castle’s regular opening hours.

Swimming: Schlosspromenade

Our top swimming tip directly in Kammer am Attersee is the Freizeit- und Erholungsfläche Schlosspromenade. It’s located by the Agerbrücke bridge and near the Kammer-Schörfling train station, making it ideal for visitors without a car. Entry is free, the area is freely accessible, and there is plenty of greenery and pleasant shade for hot summer days. You’ll find several restaurants or bistros nearby, as well as a playground and mini-golf for families with children.

Parking: Parking is paid or located in short-term zones near the station and along the main road (parking disc required). Grilling and dogs are not allowed at the swimming area.

Kammer am Attersee with kids: Playground, pirate ship, and mini-golf

Families with children will surely love the Kinderspielplatz im Schlosspark. You’ll also find a new pirate ship by the coastal promenade, and the park behind the mini-golf course is very pleasant. The playground is open daily all year round. It features various climbing frames, a climbing wall, and swings, and in the summer, the park offers a nice spot to access the water for a quick dip. There are also benches, tables, shade, toilets, and refreshments nearby. Stroller access is a matter of course.

Our tip: Wam’s Minigolf is located right in the castle park and has direct access to Lake Attersee, featuring over 20 mini-golf courses and 18 pit-pat courses.

Gustav Klimt in Kammer am Attersee

Kammer/Schörfling is also famous thanks to Gustav Klimt. He spent his summer stays here at Attersee between 1900 and 1916, and the area inspired a large portion of his landscape paintings. In the castle park, there are information boards about Klimt’s summer stays and the paintings inspired by Attersee, including the famous “Allee Schloss Kammer.”

Our tip: The Gustav Klimt-Zentrum 2026 season runs from May 21 to October 26; according to the official Attersee-Attergau page, it is open Wednesday to Friday 10:00 AM–5:00 PM and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays 10:00 AM–6:00 PM.

Boat transport from Kammer am Attersee

From the castle park, you can walk to the Kammer boat stop, located just past the castle harbor. We recommend taking the northern Attersee-Schifffahrt circuit. For the 2026 season, the official daily schedule lists operations from April 5 to November 1, 2026. However, specific daily operations vary, so we recommend checking the current timetable before your trip directly at Attersee-Schifffahrt.
