Strobl – a Quiet Place for your Vacation

The small town of Strobl is located on the eastern shore of Lake Wolfgangsee. It is not as famous as its neighbors St. Wolfgang or St. Gilgen, and that is precisely why it has still retained a pleasantly peaceful atmosphere. You can park comfortably in the central parking lot near the waterfront or train station, from where it is only a few steps to the start of the trail.

Before you set off, I recommend a short stop at the local bakery. Fresh rolls or cakes will come in handy as a snack for the road.

Trail around Bürglestein – Rocky Romance above the Water

The trail around Bürglestein is one of those routes that are not long, but extremely impressive. It leads along the slope of a rocky promontory that rises steeply above the clear waters of Wolfgangsee. Wolfgangsee. The path is narrow, sometimes carved directly into the rock, and offers breathtaking views of the surface of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The railing ensures safe passage even for less experienced hikers, but even so we recommend sturdy shoes and caution, especially if it has been raining.

In every season season the trail has its charm: in spring alpine flowers bloom along the way, in summer the air smells of pine trees and in winter – if it is not completely completely closed, it offers peace like from a postcard.

Hiking trail to St. Wolfgang

If you have set aside more time for today’s trip, you can, like us, go all the way to St. Wolfgang. Behind Bürglestein the path widens again and continues along the shore towards St. Wolfgang. This section is ideal for a leisurely walk. The elevation gain is minimal and the path first leads through a meadow and then copies the road along a comfortable cycle path, where you are also offered views of the lake.

Arrival in St. Wolfgang is like from another time. Picturesque houses with carved balconies, the historic church of St. Wolfgang and the romantic waterfront promenade look like a backdrop from the Sissi movie. If you have time, I recommend visiting one of the famous hotels, whether for a coffee or just for the view from the terrace. terrace.
