In rainy weather, you&#8217;ll also be able to see the third, middle lake Gosaulacke, which has been almost drying up in recent summers, so you won&#8217;t see it in this report. You&#8217;ll be surrounded by such natural beauty everywhere here that it won&#8217;t surprise you why the area is declared a nature reserve. These breathtaking Austrian lakes are located in the Gmunden district. The only thing to keep in mind is that whoever arrives at the parking lot earlier will park higher up. If the upper parking lot is full, you can park along the road at more distant lay-bys. It should be possible to park motorhomes here as well (we&#8217;re checking new conditions for 2025). There are already parking turnstiles at the parking lots &#8211; a full day cost 10 EUR in autumn 2024. You can also park for a shorter time for less if you&#8217;re just going to walk around the first lake.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Vorderer_Gosausee\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Vorderer Gosausee<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>From the upper parking lot, it&#8217;s just a few steps\/stairs to the first of the Gosausee lakes, to Vorderer Gosausee. You&#8217;ll be walking past a pleasant hotel where you can not only stay but also have lunch or grab something good after your trip around the lakes. As you approach the lake shore itself, expect to be literally amazed by the view of both the lake itself and the backdrop of the Dachstein mountain massif in any weather. After all, Vorderer Gosausee is spread out at an altitude of 933 meters. It measures about 1.8 kilometers in length and about 500 meters in width.<\/p>\n<p>It will take you about an hour to walk around Vorderer Gosausee, and you don&#8217;t need to worry about taking a stroller on the trip. Right by the lake, you can enjoy one of the easier and more experiential ones. However, Vorderer Gosausee is also a sought-after lake for divers. The depth of the lake has been measured at just under 100 meters. The main bathing area, however, is on the grass if you head to the right side upon arrival at the lake. After about 1-2 hours of walking along a comfortable gravel path, you&#8217;ll reach another mountain gem, Hinterer Gosausee. You can easily join the trail to the upper lake from the left side of the front lake. It&#8217;s good to count on a slight incline, which can tire untrained individuals already in the first half of the journey.<\/p>\n<p>For the journey with a child, pack a carrier. Dogs need to be kept on a leash. If you&#8217;re a fan of mountain walks with a slight elevation gain, this trip will be just right for you. You&#8217;ll also pass by the middle mountain lake, which is hardly visible when it&#8217;s dry. A few hundred meters before the destination, don&#8217;t forget to stop at the breathtaking viewpoint all the way to Vorderer Gosausee, protected by the surrounding massifs.<\/p>\n<p>Once you reach your destination, right at the beginning of Hinterer Gosausee, a bench awaits you with a view directly of the Dachstein reflecting in the lake across a large stump. This stump is one of the most photographed landmarks of this trip.
