Lake Weissensee is a quieter and more natural alternative to the better-known Carinthian lakes. It lies at an altitude of around 930 meters, so even in the hot summer, it tends to be more pleasant here than at lower-lying lakes. Despite the altitude, the water warms up beautifully during the season, and swimming is truly one of the main reasons why tourists head here for their holidays.<\/p>\n

In the summer months, the water reaches roughly 24\u201326\u00b0C, which is why Weissensee is often referred to as the highest swimming lake in the Alps. The shores are largely undeveloped, which helps the place maintain a very clean, almost Caribbean look. The color of the lake is determined by the light-colored seabed, and the water is exceptionally clear.<\/p>\n
