Fuschlsee is a popular Austrian lake located on the border of Upper Austria and Salzburg. The almost untouched nature and breathtaking views from the surrounding peaks attract visitors mainly in the summer season, but don’t be mistaken. Lake Fuschlsee is here for you and your weekend or week-long holidays all year round.
Lake Fuschlsee – What to Experience Here?
Fuschlsee lies at an altitude of 665 meters and its length is roughly just over 4 kilometers. The coastline is calculated to be around 9 kilometers. The color of the lake is one of the main attractions. It changes according to the wind and sun rays from emerald shades to crystal clear, and in terms of water quality, Fuschlsee is one of the cleanest in Austria.
It is also considered one of the warmest Austrian lakes. Its water temperature reaches around 24 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Personally, we can say that even at the end of September it was pleasant to swim in the lake at 18 degrees Celsius.

Expect a pleasant walk of just under 12 kilometers, which can be managed in a maximum of 4 hours at a normal walking pace, without stopping. However, if you are heading here for the first time and want to fully enjoy the surroundings of the lake, rather count on a full-day trip.

Visit to Fuschl Castle
Visiting Fuschl Castle is one of the most magical experiences you can take away from the lake. Does the castle seem familiar to you? Then know that you have already seen it in the film about Empress Sissi. The filmmakers chose it as the place where Sissi grew up with her family, although this was not the case in reality. However, Fuschl Castle has gained worldwide fame thanks to this, and to this day you can see artifacts from the filming in the museum dedicated to Empress Sissi.
The hotel is not open to the public all year round. It usually opens its doors on weekends, and Christmas markets are held here in the summer and during Christmas.

The trek is not recommended in bad weather.
