1. Grossglockner High Alpine Road
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of the most beautiful Alpine routes in Austria and will take you through 48 kilometers directly into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The road winds through 36 bends up to the Hochtor Pass at an altitude of 2,504 meters, with the highest drivable point being the Edelweißspitze with a panoramic view of the surrounding three-thousand-meter peaks. The biggest attraction, in our opinion, is the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe stop, from where you can see Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner, and the Pasterze glacier.
2. Kaprun High Mountain Reservoirs
The Kaprun High Mountain Reservoirs are among the most impressive trips from accommodation in Zell am See – Kaprun, as they combine a dramatic Alpine landscape with a technical masterpiece hidden high in the mountains. Two turquoise reservoirs, Wasserfallboden and Mooserboden, lie at an altitude of approximately 2,040 meters and resemble fjords squeezed between the peaks of the Hohe Tauern.
You can get here by a combination of buses and the Lärchwand inclined elevator, while at the top, views of the dam walls, educational trails, the possibility of a dam tour, and several routes for short mountain hikes await you.
3. Tauern Spa Kaprun
Tauern Spa Kaprun is a modern thermal and wellness complex in the Zell am See – Kaprun area, which is suitable as a relaxation program after summer trips, skiing, or hiking around the Kitzsteinhorn. On an area of more than 20,000 m², it offers indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna world, relaxation zones, the Kidstein children’s area, and views of the Hohe Tauern peaks.
